Corozal has a surprising amount of local eateries that reflect its ethnic diversity, all within the walkable downtown and nearby shoreline area. In each one, you get small town, personalized service.
Some of these restaurants are also hubs for events and activities, if you’re looking for some local action while you’re in Corozal. You’ll also find several places to try some of Belize’s signature dishes.
7-4th Avenue 2C Corozal Town, Belize
RD’s is a homey diner serving up hearty local fare, from stew chicken with rice and beans to stuffed pork chops. Super-friendly owner Rick is often on hand for amiable conversation and tips about his hometown of Corozal, so don’t hesitate to ask him anything!
The special-of-the-day is a sure thing, and portions are large. If you’re lucky, Rick might be offering his delectable cheesecake for dessert, but don’t think you’ll get the recipe from him – we tried, and he wisely keeps those details close.
5th Avenue Just North of Intersection w/6th Street South, Corozol Town, Belize
In Corozal, you can get authentic Indian food at Jai Ambe Restaurant. This small cafe has a varied menu and specials of the day, like crispy onion bhajis with cilantro sauce, and other Indian favorites.
Corozal’s East-Indian community comprises descendants of previously indentured cane sugar farmworkers, plus others who arrived later for business purposes. There’s even an East-Indian temple, Shukh Shanti Indian Temple, that regularly hosts Indian feasts and festivals.
You can ask about any current Indian-related activities at Jai Ambe, as the temple always welcomes interested guests (and you’ll be sure to get amazing Indian sweets!).
26 Third Street South Corozal Town, Belize
Situated on a quiet, central street in Corozal Town, June’s is a cozy restaurant with a long history of happy patrons. What makes it so great is June and her family, who welcome you to dine in the enclosed front porch of June’s comfortable house.
The breakfasts (including fresh orange juice!) and specials-of-the-day are legendary and full of local flavor. Economical prices and consistently good food keep this a popular restaurant for tourists, and a favored expat hang-out.
Belize’s expats are outgoing, so don’t be surprised if you’re approached for a friendly chat and invited to participate in local happenings!

If you want a taste of authentic Mexican street food, this taqueria is the place for you! Serving up the best tacos (several varieties) in town, plus fresh ceviche, beer, cocktails and fresh juices, Mexican Taste is a colorful family restaurant with a happy vibe. Finca Solana, Corozal, Belize
This family-friendly restaurant is a great place to hang out and eat some great pub-style food and have drinks. There are lots of things to do for both kids and adults in a fun atmosphere.
You can also stop by and see if they have any events planned, as Jah Mundo regularly features “Pop-Up” store days promoting local arts and crafts or fundraisers for good causes. They also sponsor Reggae Fests, Karaoke nights, Wine & Dine nights and other summer time events.
2nd Street South Corozal, Corozal Town
Originally from China, Zoey and her family immigrated to Corozal for business purposes.
Lucky for the locals and anyone who visits, lovely Zoey decided to open a restaurant, and was savvy enough to entice some of the best local cooks to teach her Belizean cooking and staff her kitchen. Authentic Belizean dishes, like stewed meats, chicken and beans, plantains, fresh juices and more, are on offer every day.
The great food and reasonable prices, plus Zoey’s friendly attitude, brought us back more than once.
Underneath the Sugar Board building on 7 th ave, Corozal Town
Here you can pick up some authentic tacos that are famous in Belize, especially in the style of Orange Walk (another town in Belize about an hour further south) where tacos are king! If you don’t make it to Orange Walk, now you can get some of these great tacos right in Corozal.

Nice family-style restaurant with great choices for breakfast and lunch (special holiday dinners only on occasion).
Offering full Belizean breakfasts (with fry jacks or johnny cakes) or waffles and omelets, plus fish and chicken specials of the day, rice and beans. They also serve up Mexican snacks and treats, like tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Overall inexpensive and delicious.
Northern Highway South End On The Bay, Corozal Town
Located right along the shoreline, Corozo Blue’s has something for everyone, from steaks to fajitas to Belizean favorites to pizza. Plus, some fantastic desserts (we loved the homemade ice cream).
With the perfect Caribbean vibe, beautiful wood furnishings, and welcome sea breezes, you can linger for hours, moving from casual drinks to dinner, any day. Corozo Blue’s has a long-lived reputation for great food and service among locals, tourists, and expats alike.

Right on the Corozal Bay, Tortuga Grill has a large menu and features seafood dishes that include fish and chips, shrimp, grilled snapper, burgers, chicken dishes and salads, large portions.

This seaside restaurant offers a wide selection of seafood dishes (catch of the day, fish & chips, lobster, etc), chicken dishes, burritos & fajitas, burgers and more. Often a fun atmosphere with Karoke and DJ nights.
425 Bayshore Dr., South End, Corozal Town
You don’t have to stay at the Almond Tree Resort to take advantage of their fine dining restaurant where you will get personalized service. Everything is made to order using fresh ingredients; check for the dinner specials to see what’s available. The Turtle Bar situated on their lush grounds, is open for wraps and sandwiches during the day, and the full restaurant opens in the evenings, where you can enjoy a delicious meal in a peaceful environment.
Orchid Bay, Chunox Village, Corozal District, Belize
Located within the Orchid Bay Resort about 40 minutes outside of Corozal Town, Tradewinds offers a variety of Belizean dishes with an emphasis on excellent seafood dishes.
Hint: It’s worth the drive over bumpy roads and 2 ferry crossings just for a meal, but, as long as you’re taking the effort, you might opt to make a day trip of it and include swimming and sunning at the resort; you won’t get tired of the restaurant for all your meals, snacks, and drinks!
