Where to stay

The beautiful scenery of Bohol is best enjoyed when staying in cozy and stylish accommodations, and Panglao Island is a popular choice. Here are three exceptional lodgings that guarantee an incredible stay on this tropical island.

Oceanica Panglao (formerly South Palms Beach Resort): Located on Panglao Island, this resort provides a perfect balance between luxury and natural beauty. The resort's rooms and villas are spacious and aesthetically pleasing. Guests can indulge in a variety of leisure activities, from resting by the infinity pool to adrenaline-fueled water sports experiences.

Samadhi Resort: Tucked in the beautiful woods of Panglao Island Samadhi Resort is for perfect for a comfortable, sustainable stay. This resort offers you environmentally friendly villas that complement the natural surroundings. The resort also has a spa and outdoor restaurant.

Mithi Resort and Spa: This resort offers exquisite accommodation with breathtaking views of the ocean. Enjoy a choice of therapeutic treatments at the resort's spa, indulge at the hotel's own restaurants, or simply unwind on the white-sand beach.

Where to eat

While there are many good restaurants in Bohol, here are three of my favourite places to eat on the island.

Mist

Situated in Panglao, Mist is a culinary wonder known for its diverse meals and seaside vistas. Set on a cliff overlooking the waters of Bohol, this higher-end restaurant serves an infusion of Asian and Western cuisines.

Loboc River Cruise

Board the floating restaurant for a memorable dining experience on the gorgeous Loboc River. After boarding, enjoy a buffet-style feast of authentic Filipino food; make sure to try everything!

As the boat sets sail along the waters of the Loboc River, surrounded by mangroves and towering trees, you're treated to breathtaking views of the scenic landscape. The rhythmic drum beats and melodious tunes fill the air, accompanied by cultural performances that showcase the rich heritage of the region.

Halfway during the cruise, the boat arrives at a small village where members of the indigenous Ati tribe live. Here, you'll have the opportunity to interact with the locals and even participate in traditional activities, immersing yourself in the authentic culture of the Philippines.

Upon returning to the shore, the cultural immersion continues as talented artists perform ethnic dances such as tinikling. You can even join them in the dance and experience the people's warm hospitality.

Mosa

Mosa, a peaceful and charming cafe in Tagbilaran City, is popular for its homemade pastries, freshly brewed coffee, and brunch options. Complement your meal with a cup of their famous coffee or handmade tea for a great start to the day or a relaxing afternoon treat.

Arriving in Bohol

Most people arrive in Tagbilaran Airport, near Bohol's capital city of Tagbilaran. This modern airport serves domestic flights from major cities in the Philippines, which makes it accessible if you're coming from Manila, Cebu, and other popular places in the country.

Once you arrive at Tagbilaran Airport, there are several ways you can get to your accommodation. Taxis, tricycles, and rental vehicles are easily available outside the airport terminal. Many hotels and resorts also provide airport pick-up services with prior arrangements.

If you prefer a more scenic journey, you can also reach Bohol via ferry routes from nearby islands such as Cebu and Dumaguete. Ferries arrive at Tagbilaran Seaport, which is a thriving hub of activity, with vessels coming and departing regularly throughout the day.

Tagbilaran Seaport is in the heart of the city, with an array of transportation alternatives available. From cabs to tricycles, heading to your accommodation is simple and quick, allowing you to start your Bohol journey right away.

Getting around

Tricycles are the most common form of transportation for short trips as well as within the towns of Bohol. These three-wheeled vehicles let you explore the island’s culture while offering a handy and budget-friendly way of exploring local attractions. All you need to do is simply wave down a tricycle by the roadside, but make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand to avoid scams.

If you want to explore independently, then renting a scooter or motorbike can be a good option. You can wander off the typical path and uncover hidden gems in the island’s remote areas. You can easily find a rental in tourist spots such as Tagbilaran and Panglao.

For a hassle-free getaway, try joining an organised tour with a local provider. These packages frequently consist of transportation and guided trips to Bohol's top-rated attractions, allowing you to sit back, unwind, and enjoy the island's beauty without being concerned about practicalities.

What to pack

Given Bohol's tropical weather, it's important that you put on light, breathable clothing that will keep you comfortable and cool. Don't forget to bring your best bikinis for beach days in the sun, carefree swims, and relaxing dips! High-SPF sunscreen is also important (it really gets hot everywhere in the Philippines!).

Carry insect and mosquito repellent to protect yourself, especially in forested areas. Wearing comfortable shoes is a must when exploring the various terrains of Bohol - but pick something breathable as it can hot.
